Winner of the Sir William Gillies Award at the 129th Annual RSW Exhibition

'The Wind was the Colour of the Sun' (above) won the prestigious Sir William Gillies Award at the 129th Annual RSW Exhibition.

This award is presented in memory of one of the founder members of the 1922 Group which included artists such as William MacTaggart RSW and George Wright Hall. Sir William Gillies visited Paris and studied with Andrew Lhote, before travelling to Florence. He painted still lifes, interiors, and landscapes, in particular the villages of Midlothian and the fishing villages on the east coast. He was Head of Painting and Principal of Edinburgh College of Art.
